On Sunday, October 11, 2009 we went to Gruene Hall for the Gruene Music and Wine Fest. We saw bands like the Derailers, Adam Hood, Brandon Rhyder, Zack Walther and the Cronkites, Asleep at the Wheel, Two Tons of Steel, and Reckless Kelly. We'd both been there plenty of times living in San Antonio and Helotes, but this was the 1st time since we'd decided to go to all these dance halls. We suggest if anyone is in Gruene to stop at the Gristmill, too. Also, walk down the street to Lone Star Music for some free beer and every Texan CD you could imagine.
That is me livin the dream at Gruene Hall.
We came to the conclusion that if you don't like Texas Country or Dance halls, you should get the book, and just drive around to see what is out there in Texas. Too often people want to fly places because they are in a hurry and do not realize what they are missing. If you live in Texas, do yourself a favor and save your time and money for a trip around the Hill Country. Europe, LA, NY, Miami, New Orleans, and Las Vegas will be there later on. But unfortunately for those of us who appreciate the simpler things in life, there is no telling how much longer some of these halls will last.

So my previous comment should have been posted here...oh well
ReplyDeleteIf anyone ever gets the chance to visit Gruene, it is worth it I swear. It is known as the oldest dance hall in Texas, and the old hardwood floor inside is simply amazing. One thing that wasn't mentioned was that Gruene hall takes cash only and they don't serve liquor. And if anyone wants to know whose van that is in the picture...it's Zach Walther and the Cronkite's (and yes, he was driving the van personally).
